After a 62-run loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday, May 26, Mumbai Indians’ (MI) IPL 2023 campaign came to an end.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of MI, won the toss for the game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and decided to bowl first. It was a mistake in retrospect as Shubman Gill’s incredible 129-run innings helped GT reach 233/3.
Tim David dropped Gill when he was in his 30s, providing him with a lifeline. After that, he started committing atrocities, and MI and David were severely punished.
Before the chase even began, MI faced a setback when their star opener Ishan Kishan was unable to play because of a concussion. As the chase’s concussion replacement, Vishnu Vinod took his place.
The Mumbai management was compelled to advance Nehal Wadhera to the opening position. As a result, GT got off to a perfect start in their defense after Mohammed Shami sent him and Rohit Sharma back inside the 2-over line.
Then, until the 15th over, Suryakumar Yadav (61), Tilak Varma (43), and Cameron Green (30) played aggressively and kept their side in the game. Suryakumar Yadav was struck out by Mohit Sharma in that over, seemingly ending Mumbai Indian’s chances of winning. Ultimately, MI was bowled out for 171 in 18 point 2 overs, losing the game by a score of 62 runs.

When discussing their performance in the IPL 2023, Rohit Sharma said that coming in third would give them confidence going into the following season.
He emphasized that they had many young players who rose to the occasion in the batting department, which was a big advantage for them.
“Completing third gives us a lot of confidence. The young players who came through in our batting lineup were the biggest plus. This season has been difficult for every bowling team. In the prior game, we bowled incredibly well. To be optimistic, we considered giving it a good try, Sharma said”
He then continued: “We were required to utilize the powerplay fully, and that did not go well for us. Although Surya and Green did a good job batting in the middle, we were hoping for one batter to hit a home run. Anything is possible. Although you must give credit where credit is due, this is a good pitch to bat on. Gujarat performed well. You must give Shubman credit, and I hope he keeps up this form. Just the fact that Gujarat won today is all.”
