Gautam Gambhir Lashes Out At Dinesh Karthik For His Captaincy This Season

The Kolkata Knight Riders this season haven’t had the greatest starts as they lost two games in the 4 matches they’ve played this season. The captaincy and form of Dinesh Karthik are being questioned. The decision to send Andre Russell ahead of Eoin Morgan to persistent opening with Sunil Narine despite failing this year to Rahul Tripathi batting down as low as 8, the KKR side look a mess right now.

Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir who has arguably been the most successful captain for them has now come out lashing at Dinesh Karthik for the decisions he’s been taking this season.

With the likes of Kuldeep Yadav not being able to excel this year again they went in with someone like Varun Chakarvathy. But overall, other than Shubman Gill, Eoin Morgan and  Pat Cummins, we fail to find any sound performer for Kolkata Knight Riders this season.

Best bowlers have to bowl the death overs: Gautam Gambhir

Former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir stated the best bowlers of the team to bowl the death overs and not some spinner. Along with Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine, Gambhir also picked Shivam Mavi, who has done a good job for the KKR side in the previous games in the death overs.

“Your best bowlers need to ball the 18th, 19th and 20th over, unfortunately, it didn’t happen. Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine — if a spinner has to bowl. Even Mavi, he did a fabulous job in the previous games and so did Andre Russell. You have to got to give your best bowlers,” Gambhir said on ESPNCricinfo chat show.

Gautam Gambhir was quite critical of the decision to bowl Varun Chakravarthy the spinner in the 18th over. He’s of the opinion that the best bowlers in the side should be bowling the death overs since they are critical overs of the match.

“Yes, Varun Chakravarty did bowl well in the first few overs but you cannot expect a young spinner to be bowling the 19th over and that too in Sharjah, probably it was a miscalculation,” he added.
