Team India have been a force to reckon with across the three formats in the last few years. Apart from winning home series, Virat Kohli & Co have also done exceedingly well in challenging condition until the series against New Zealand. They suffered a bad drubbing against the Kiwis losing the ODIs and Tests after making a good start winning the T20Is which has got Harbhajan Singh question the batting unit.

The batting failed miserably to deliver the goods which hurt India badly. The top guns including Virat Kohli were silent with the bat throughout the series. They struggled against the likes of Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and Neil Wagner who shed fire on seam-friendly wickets.

Out-of-favour India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has identified this problem and made startling remarks on Indian batting. The veteran off-spinner said that the batting is too much reliant on the top-order and the middle-order lack self-belief. Harbhajan further stressed his point and added that if the star batsmen fail to deliver then India struggle to get going including defeats in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final and 2019 World Cup semi-final.

“The current Indian side is dependent on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The side does not have much confidence, there are good players but once Virat and Rohit get out, 70 percent of matches we tend to lose. There is a lack of self-belief,” Harbhajan said in an Instagram Live session with Rohit Sharma.

Furthermore, Harbhajan Singh emphasised on the need to find more match-winners in the team. Although India have the young all-rounder Hardik Pandya in their ranks, but he has struggled with a lot of injuries and his backups have failed to deliver. With a lot of important series lined-up, the management will seek answers for all these to have a complete team.

“If the top three of the current Indian side are dismissed, then we have problems in winning matches, you need to find more watch winners. You had a good World Cup, but then you lose in the semi-finals, if you had 3-4 guys performing, we would have won the World Cup,” Harbhajan said in the live session.
