The prevailing lockdown amid the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has given individuals a lot of time to introspect on themselves. With no cricketing actions, the cricketers have resorted to social media sessions to bite their time. Recently star India batsman Rohit Sharma appeared on an Instagram Live chat with Harbhajan Singh where they discussed on various issues.

India have always been the breeding ground for talented cricketers. The supply chain has been very fluent which has made India a powerhouse in world cricket; thanks to the hard work and dedication put to nurture talents. The last few years have witnessed the rise of Shubman Gill, who has been constantly knocking the doors of the national team. Although he has received a few chances, Rohit Sharma believes he should get more opportunity.

Since finishing as the highest run-scorer in the U19 ICC World Cup in 2018, Gill has not looked back. He has scored tons and tons of runs in domestic cricket and also impressed in the A tours and Indian Premier League against some of the world-class bowlers. Praising Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma opined that he is the future of Indian cricket.

“Shubhman Gill is a very fluent batsman. I think he is India’s future. I feel when he gets chances, if he scores runs he will get that confidence. Now he doesn’t know when he’ll play. He’s done well in the domestic circuit, I think we should get him into the team,” Rohit said during the Instagram Live with Harbhajan Singh.

Furthermore, Harbhajan Singh also echoed the sentiments of Rohit Sharma. The out-of-favour India off-spinner believes the management should have given Shubman Gill a longer run to make him feel at place. Moreover, he feels this should be the case with every young cricketer in the country.

“Good to see that Prithvi Shaw was backed and brought back in the team. But I feel when you were not available, they should have gone with Shubman. I feel this is not healthy for him or the team. They need to give him a chance, and the same case applies to any other youngster,” Harbhajan said.
