Former India player Gautam Gambhir is confident that newly-appointed head coach Rahul Dravid will certainly achieve a lot of success with Team India. While speaking on Star Sports’ show Follow the Blues, he shared Dravid’s contribution to the success of the team in the past.

He also shared that apart from being a champion cricketer, Dravid also excelled as a captain during his playing days. Gambhir, who had shared the dressing room with the veteran earlier in the past, applauded his work ethic and suggested that the same approach will be beneficial for the team as well as he takes over the role of Team India head coach. He said:

“He was a very successful player then he became a very successful captain and I’m sure he is going to become a very successful coach as well. With him in that dressing room, I think he brings a lot of assurance, he’s played more than 100 Test matches. He’s captained the side, his work ethics were unbelievable, really hard working. So, I think he brings a lot on the table.”

India’s home series against New Zealand will be Dravid’s first assignment since his appointment. The two teams are scheduled to contest in a three-match T20I series, followed by two Test matches as well.

Apart from Virat Kohli, veteran players such as Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, and Hardik Pandya have been rested for the white-ball series. On the other hand, New Zealand would not get the service of their regular captain Kane Williamson and Kyle Jamieson.

India go 1-0 up in the T20I series

India held their nerves to beat the Kiwis in a nail-biting finish, chasing 165 runs with two balls to spare. Bowling first, India rode on Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravichandran Ashwin to restrict New Zealand to 164 runs.

In reply, Rohit Sharma got India off to a good start, adding 50 runs for the first wicket before forging another 59 runs alongside Suryakumar Yadav to put his side on track. The Black Caps got back with a couple of wickets but Rishabh Pant held his composure to take India home.
