Former India cricketer Ravi Shastri has backed Rahul Tripathi to make his India debut on the tour of Ireland. The two-match T20I series will take place at Castle Avenue in Dublin.

Indian batter Rahul Tripathi received his maiden India call-up for the Ireland tour, after a brilliant performance in the Indian Premier League 2022 season. Playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, he scored 413 runs in 14 matches at an average of 37.5 and an impressive strike rate of 158.23.

The right-hander has consistently done well in the last few years. Despite this, he wasn’t included in the Indian T20I squad for the South Africa series at home. However, he is likely to make his India debut against Ireland.

Speaking to the Espncricinfo, former India cricketer Ravi Shastri expressed that Rahul Tripathi does not get overawed by the opposition. He also stated that the right-hander keeps the scoreboard ticking. Shastri said,

“When he is there at the crease, the scoreboard is ticking. He doesn’t go behind the edged ball. Shot-making ability, the all-round game that he has, he’s not overawed by any opposition or by any bowler. He’s scoring at a great rate, you know, which is tremendous at No. 3 because he sets it up beautifully.”
