“He Should Consider This”- Deep Dasgupta Makes Bold Claim About Team India Star Ahead Of IND vs PAK Final

Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta has flagged Suryakumar Yadav’s poor form as a significant worry for the team ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan. So far in the tournament, the Indian star has managed just 71 runs in five innings, averaging 23.66 with a strike rate of 107.57.

Yadav’s batting struggles extend beyond the current Asia Cup, as he has failed to score a fifty in his last 13 T20I innings. Before the 2025 IPL season, he had a disappointing home series against England, accumulating only 28 runs in five matches. In Team India’s final Super 4 match against Sri Lanka, Suryakumar was dismissed LBW for 12 by Wanindu Hasaranga.

Across his last three innings, he has totaled just 17 runs, including a duck against Pakistan. Deep Dasgupta stated that ever since succeeding Rohit Sharma as captain after the 2024 T20 World Cup, Suryakumar Yadav has been focusing more on his leadership role within the team.

“One thing that has been a concern in the middle order is obviously Suryakumar Yadav’s form. If we look at the last one year, his strike rate has come down, his performances have gone down. For me, Surya – the batter is not separate from Surya -the captain at this time. Surya – the captain is overbearing his influence too much over Surya -the player,” Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel.

“When he needs to bat? Where he needs to bat? He needs to be careful about these. I feel that the captain Surya is not helping the batter Surya. He needs to think about this. I think he needs to give himself a little time, and look to play straight, and not try to play behind right from the get-go. Surya -the captain needs to back Surya- the batter,” he added.

Suryakumar Yadav Hits Winning Runs As India Beats Sri Lanka, Drops To Sixth in ICC Rankings

As captain, Suryakumar Yadav has accumulated 629 runs in 28 matches, averaging 24.19. After holding a top position for a long period, he has now dropped to sixth in the ICC T20I batter rankings. He played a crucial role in India’s super over victory against Sri Lanka, hitting the winning runs in a match where the team had struggled for most of the second innings.

Deep Dasgupta commented that the Men in Blue needed a wake-up call, and the tough challenge posed by Charith Asalanka and his team came at the perfect time.

“The close game against Sri Lanka was necessary; it was a reality check for India, a reminder not to get too comfortable. It was very, very important. At this time, there is a massive difference between India and Pakistan. This format is really unpredictable, you cannot take it lightly, out of 10 times, India may win 8 times,” the former player said.
