Former Delhi cricket team captain Mithun Manhas has officially taken charge as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following the Annual General Meeting at the board’s headquarters on Sunday.
His appointment comes after the resignation of Roger Binny in August 2025, with Rajeev Shukla serving as interim president during the transition. Manhas now becomes the third ex-cricketer to hold this prestigious office, after Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny. Taking on one of the most influential roles in global cricket administration, Manhas will not receive a fixed salary but will enjoy several allowances and benefits as part of his responsibilities.
Allowances and Financial Benefits
As the BCCI president’s position is honorary, it does not involve a direct monthly or annual salary. Instead, compensation comes in the form of daily allowances and reimbursements covering official duties. For attending board or committee meetings within India, Manhas will receive Rs 40,000 per day.
While for international meetings, the allowance increases to USD 1,000, which is approximately Rs 89,000 per day, according to reports. In addition, when required to travel across the country for work, he will be entitled to Rs 30,000 per day as a travel allowance. These benefits align with the allowances provided to other senior office bearers of the board such as the Secretary and Treasurer, ensuring parity among the top brass.
Travel, Accommodation, and Responsibilities
Alongside the financial benefits, the BCCI president enjoys premium travel and stay facilities. For domestic journeys, Manhas will fly in business class, while for international travel, he will have the option of business or first-class tickets. Accommodation during official duties is arranged in luxury hotel suites, ensuring comfort during his busy schedule.
Despite these attractive perks, the role demands immense responsibility. Manhas will need to combine his cricketing experience with leadership skills to manage the board’s operations and further strengthen Indian cricket. The faith placed in him requires not just overseeing administrative matters but also ensuring that the sport continues to thrive both domestically and globally under his leadership.
