Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting reckons that Rishabh Pant is one of the players to watch out for in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 edition. The mega-event will take place in October-November later this year in Australia.
Ricky Ponting worked with Rishabh Pant as the Head coach of the Delhi Capitals team in the Indian Premier League. The wicket-keeper batter performed decently well this year, scoring 340 runs at an average of 30.91 and at a strike rate of 151.78. He was the second leading run-scorer for the Delhi Capitals team.
Rishabh Pant is leading the Indian team in the ongoing T20I series against South Africa. Speaking on the ICC Review, Ricky Ponting expressed that the Indian team will use Rishabh Pant as a floater in their batting order. He termed the wicket-keeper batter as “dynamic” and “explosive”.
“I reckon they’ll have him as a floater. They’ll have listed (him) at five in the batting line-up. But in certain situations, if they get to a stage where there are seven-eight overs to go and they’re one or two down, they’ll look to sending him in and giving him as much time as they can. He’s that dynamic, and that explosive. That’s certainly the way that I’ll try and use him.”
“He’s wonderful… talk about great people. He’s just an outstanding young man that’s got the world at his feet. He’ll be exceptionally dangerous for India, especially on the wickets we’ll prepare in Australia (for the T20 World Cup) – good, fast, flat, bouncy wickets. He’ll be one of the players to watch at the tournament for sure,” he added.

Dinesh Karthik took his game to another level: Ricky Ponting lauds RCB batter’s performance in IPL 2022
Ricky Ponting also spoke about veteran cricketer Dinesh Karthik, who is making a comeback to India’s T20I team. Karthik had a brilliant Indian Premier League 2022 season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He played the finisher’s role for the franchise, batting lower down the order.
Ponting expressed that Dinesh Karthik had a great impact on the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. He added that the wicket-keeper batter has to be in the Indian squad, after his great performance in IPL 2022. Ponting said,
“I would have him, and I’d have him in at that five or six roles. The way that he finished games for RCB this year, he took his game to another level. When you look at the IPL, you want your better players to maybe be able to win two or three, maybe four games through the season. If you can get that out of them, it’s probably going to be a really good return. But Dinesh probably had a bigger impact on a lot of the games than most of the other RCB players did this year.”
“Virat (Kohli) having the year he’s had, Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) started the tournament really well… but DK was the one. And Faf too I guess, who kept the RCB bandwagon rolling. I’d be surprised if he’s not in their (India) line-up somewhere,” he added.
