Australian cricketer Travis Head has shared his thoughts on the mixed reactions he receives from Indian fans, especially after his performances against the Indian team over the past year and a half. The South Australian batter finds these reactions amusing rather than uupsetting.
According to Head, he prioritizes enjoying his game rather than focusing on external opinions when playing against India. His performances in 2023, particularly in major tournaments, have made him a significant figure in Australian cricket.
During the ICC World Test Championship final, Head delivered a crucial knock of 163 runs in the first innings, playing a key role in Australia’s victory. Later that year, he repeated his heroics in the ICC World Cup final in Ahmedabad by scoring a match-winning 137 runs.
This innings remains unforgettable, as it was played in front of a massive crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium, helping Australia claim their sixth World Cup title. Despite receiving both admiration and criticism from Indian fans, Head revealed in an interview with News18 that their reactions, including the popular term “Headache,” no longer affect him. He considers himself fortunate to have performed well against India on multiple occasions.
Key Player in Australia’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy Triumph
Apart from his stellar performances in ICC events, Travis Head also played a crucial role in helping Australia regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a decade. He emerged as the highest run-scorer of the five-match Test series, amassing 448 runs, including two centuries. His consistent performances were instrumental in Australia’s success against India, further solidifying his reputation as a dependable batter in high-pressure situations.
At 30 years old, Head has established himself as a key player in Australia’s batting lineup. His ability to perform on big occasions has made him a challenging opponent for the Indian team. While his performances have often disappointed Indian fans, they have also earned him respect as a high-quality cricketer.
Impressive Start in IPL 2025 with SunRisers Hyderabad
Head’s success isn’t limited to international cricket. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he has continued to shine. He was bought by SunRisers Hyderabad for ₹6.80 crore ahead of IPL 2024 and played a crucial role in their journey to the final, scoring over 400 runs. His contributions led the franchise to retain him for IPL 2025.
In the new season, Head made an immediate impact by scoring 67 runs in SunRisers’ opening match against Rajasthan Royals, helping his team set a massive total of 286. However, despite his contributions of 47 and 22 runs in the next two games, SunRisers lost both matches. They will now look to regain their form when they face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their upcoming fixture.
