The current prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, who served as the captain of Pakistan Cricket Team comes up with a controversial statement saying that they never felt Indians as they rivals because of the low standards of the Indian team. He termed West Indies as the better team than the lot during those times.
The battle between India and Pakistan has always attracted huge crowds, as they have been the rivals for years now. Fans of either country stay glued to television sets during any match between both sides. More than the cricketing rivalry between both the nations, it’s the competitiveness which attracts fans all across the globe.
The Indian National Cricket Team always had the edge over Pakistan in World Cups while Pakistan managed to win more in bilateral games. They lead the victories chart in ODI and Test formats of the game. Speaking of the same, Imran Khan makes a shocking claim.
India was under a lot of pressure – Imran Khan
Imran Khan said he used to feel sorry for Indian team during his playing days as Pakistan beat them quite often. According to Imran Khan, India were not rivals of Pakistan during his playing days as India used to be in a lot of pressure. The Pakistan PM also revealed that India’s captain would be looking scared during the toss itself.
“I used to feel sorry for the Indian team because we beat them so often. They were under a lot of pressure. When I used to go to toss with their captain, I’d look at his face & he would be looking scared. Our rivals in those days weren’t India,” said Imran Khan as quoted by PakPassion Editor Saj Sadiq.”
India and Pakistan have played 132 ODIs between them with the Men in Green managing 73 wins compared to Men in Blue’s 54. However, in ODI World Cups, Pakistan has never managed to get the better of India, who have won on all seven occasions so far. Meanwhile, in Tests, India and Pakistan have met 59 times with Pakistan winning 12 games while India managing 9 victories.
Currently, both the countries are locking horns with each other only during the ICC events. Though Pakistan Cricket Board is finding ways to restart the rivalry, the Government of India ordered BCCI to cut all relations until political tensions resolve.
