“I Won’t Answer That”- India Star’s Firm Reply On Fitness Debate After Day 1

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah shrugged off concerns about his fitness after taking a five-wicket haul on Day 1 of the first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. He emphasized that his focus remains on delivering his best in every match for India across all formats.

Bumrah was the standout performer on Day 1, November 14, as South Africa, batting first after winning the toss, were restricted to 159 in 55 overs, with the pacer returning figures of 5/27 in 14 overs. India ended the day at 37/1 in reply.

Addressing the media after the day’s play, Bumrah firmly dismissed all speculation regarding his fitness and workload, responding directly when asked about it:

“I try to give my best in whichever format I play. The questions are not my questions. I will not answer them. And I try to play as much as I can. I try to take care of my body and I try to give my best in each and every format. That’s how I have looked at my career and I’ll look to do that in the future as well.”

“Question and answer session, whoever wants to play, they can play. I am happy as far as I am able to contribute and try to learn new things and try to offer more to the side,” the 31-year-old went on to add.

“Pressure Created From Both Ends”Bumrah On Five-Wicket Haul

Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul in Kolkata on Saturday marked his third in home Tests and 16th overall, achieved in just his 51st Test for India. Speaking about the achievement, he expressed his delight at securing a five-for on home soil, stating:

“Feels very good. Whenever you play in India, it is known that spinners will pick up a lot of wickets. So whenever you are able to make an impact with the limited overs, it always feels good. From both ends, there’s pressure being created. Very happy with the performance, but job is still left in the Test match.”

In 51 Tests, Bumrah Has 231 Wickets at 19.52, Still Chasing First 10-Wicket Match Haul.
