ICC ODI World Cup 2023: Chennai Food Delivery Worker Becomes A Net Bowler For The Netherlands In The Mega Event

The Netherlands cricket squad secured a spot in the prestigious tournament, along with Sri Lanka, by clinching first place in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023.

The highly awaited ICC Cricket World Cup is scheduled to commence from October 5th to November 19th. The tournament will kick off with a match between the 2019 World Cup finalists, England and New Zealand, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The Netherlands cricket squad earned a place in the prestigious competition, along with Sri Lanka, by claiming the top spot in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 held in Zimbabwe in June.

The team has already arrived in India for their training camp and had previously sought applications from local bowlers to participate in their net sessions.

Following the assessment of more than 10,000 applicants, Lokesh Kumar, originally from Chennai, was selected as one of the four bowlers for the initiative. His inclusion drew attention as he is employed as a delivery driver for Swiggy.

The 29-year-old has commenced training with the Dutch team and expressed his delight at being acknowledged for his abilities.

“We appreciate the tremendous response to our search for net bowlers in India. Here are the four individuals who will be involved in the team’s preparations for #CWC23. 🙌 @ludimos”

Three young talents, namely Hemant Kumar, Rajamani Prasad, and Harsh Sharma, have been chosen for the Netherlands’ training camp ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Hemant, a left-arm fast bowler from Churu village in Rajasthan, works as an Assistant Administrative Officer at the Rajasthan High Court. He previously served as a net bowler for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2022 and Rajasthan Royals in 2023.

Prasad, who originates from Telangana, has prior cricketing experience as a member of the Hyderabad Cricket Association and currently serves as a net bowler for the five-time Indian Premier League champions, Chennai Super Kings.

Harsh, a left-arm orthodox spinner, was part of the squad that claimed the North Zone Inter University Championship and finished as runners-up at the All India Inter University Championship. This Haryana native also participated in the RCB training camp held in Mumbai in 2022.
