The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah dismissed security concerns for the India-Pakistan clash in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. However, he confirmed that there will be some changes to the schedule. The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is all set to take place in India during October-November.
Jay Shah explained that some Full Member countries have written to the BCCI, requesting them to change some dates in the World Cup schedule. He shared that they are working on the same with the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the revised schedule will be out in a few days. Jay Shah said,
“There is a possibility there could be a few changes in the schedule. Several Full Member countries have written in requesting to change two or three dates in the schedule. We are working out with the ICC, and we should be able to clear it in two or three days.”
As per a report by ESPN Cricinfo, India vs Pakistan, match at Ahmedabad in the World Cup was set to be rescheduled due to security concerns, as it clashes with the Navratri festival. However, Jay Shah dismissed any security concerns for the match. He shared that there some countries have complained of logistical challenges, which has prompted making changes to the schedule.
“If security was an issue then why would the match go there (to Ahmedabad). (October) 14-15 is not the problem. Two or three boards have written in, asking to change based on the logistical challenges. There are some matches where there is only a two-day gap, so it will be difficult to play and then travel the next day (and then play again),” said Jay Shah.
Not changing the venue is very important: Jay Shah
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah further expressed that they are not looking to change the venues for the ODI World Cup matches. He added that the venues will remain the same, but there will be some changes to the dates. Jay Shah said,
“As far as possible, we are looking at not changing the venue as well as the matches. Not changing the venue is very important. Teams which have six-day gaps between matches, we are trying to reduce it to four-five days; and for those that have just two-day gaps, we are trying to increase to three days.”
