During the first ODI between India and the West Indies, Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, was visibly upset with teammate Shardul Thakur‘s lackadaisical fielding effort. The incident occurred during the 19th over of the West Indies innings at Barbados before Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja turned the match into a low-scoring affair.
Shardul Thakur’s casual approach at mid-off allowed West Indies skipper Shai Hope to sneak in an extra run during Kuldeep Yadav’s initial over. Rohit Sharma, clearly frustrated with the fielding lapse, did not hold back and directed a stern message towards Shardul. A video capturing the exchange between the two players quickly gained traction on social media.
Kuldeep Yadav proved to be the star bowler for India in the first ODI, clinching four wickets while conceding only six runs in his spell. The West Indies, thanks to Kuldeep’s brilliance, crumbled to a meagre total of 114 runs at the Kensington Oval.
Notably, Kuldeep’s next two overs were maiden, and his exceptional performance, combined with Ravindra Jadeja’s three-wicket haul, triggered a shocking batting collapse of the hosts. The spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja achieved a historic feat, becoming the first pair of Indian left-arm spinners to claim seven or more wickets in a 50-over contest.
Their remarkable efforts in dismantling the West Indies batting line-up played a significant role in India’s dominant performance. In the batting department, opener Ishan Kishan impressed with a brilliant knock of 52 runs off 46 balls.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten, guiding India to a comfortable five-wicket victory over the West Indies. The win provided India with a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
