The BCCI announced India’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad earlier today. The selection committee named an 18-member squad for the marquee tournament. While there were some surprise inclusions, there were some surprise exclusions as well. The biggest name to miss out from the squad was Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal is Virat Kohli’s go-to man. He has been a trusted ally for Kohli in the white-ball format since the last few years. His exclusion has been a big subject of debate ever since the squad was announced.

Another big surprise inclusion was that of Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin last played white-ball cricket for India in 2017. However, he has been included among the 15-member squad. Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar were added as standbys.

Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at three players who missed out from the squad.

3 Players Who Missed Out From India’s T20 World Cup Squad

1) Shikhar Dhawan

The southpaw was not included in India’s 18-member squad. He recently divorced his wife Ayesha Mukherjee. Despite being in good form in the first half of the IPL, his personal issues might have prompted the BCCI to sideline him from the squad. He was a part of the Indian squad which last won an ICC title way back in 2013.

Dhawan will be back playing for Delhi Capitals in the UAE leg of IPL 2021.

2) Yuzvendra Chahal

Chahal’s exclusion from the squad was a big surprise. In the IPL and in international cricket, Chahal was Virat Kohli’s go-to man. Kohli decided to stick with Chahal when the team management decided to bring an end to the ‘KulCha’ partnership.

Rahul Chahar’s rise in recent times might also have played a role in Chahal not being picked in the XI. The leggie had a brilliant first half of the IPL in India picking up 11 wickets from his first seven games. The UAE conditions will be helpful for him bagging a few more wickets as well.

3) Kuldeep Yadav

Along with Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav was also not selected in India’s T20 World Cup squad. The mystery spinner’s confidence is really down in recent times. Despite being with the side in the last two to three years, Kuldeep has not played consistent cricket.

His IPL franchise KKR has also not given him many games to prove his worth. With both Chahal and Kuldeep not getting picked this could well be the end of the “KulCha” partnership that won India quite a few games between 2017-2019.

India start their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on October 24. The final of the tournament will be played in Dubai on November 14.
