ICC T20 World Cup 2021: “Pakistan Can Definitely Beat India” – Azhar Mahmood Opens Up On India-Pakistan Clash

Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood believes that Men in Greens can easily beat India when they lock horns in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, slated to take place on October 24 in Dubai. Incidentally, the global T20 meet runs from October 17 to November 14 in the UAE and Oman.

Incidentally, Pakistan have a very poor record against India in ICC events. Azhar Mahmood, who has represented the Men in Greens in the World Cup, acknowledged Pakistan’s dreadful record but stated that they can give the Men in Blue a tough fight in the shortest format.

Speaking to Cricket Pakistan, Azhar Mahmood said:

“We lost the league match to India in the Champions Trophy (2017) but came back to beat them in the final. Then, in the 2019 World Cup, we lost. Our record against India in the World Cup has not been great. But this match (2021 T20 World Cup) will be tough because our boys play very well in the T20 format.”

Meanwhile, the hype has already reached an all-time high with fans eagerly waiting for the India-Pakistan clash.

Pakistan name 15-member squad for ICC T20 World Cup

Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah have made a comeback as Pakistan have named a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The same squad will clash with New Zealand and England in the upcoming T20Is ahead of their tournament opener against India on 24 October.

Pakistan chose youth over experience for the backup wicketkeeper spot with the inclusion of Azam Khan over Sarfaraz Ahmed. Khan has featured in only three T20Is in his career and has aggregated only six runs in two innings but his exploits in domestic T20 competitions, where he averages 22.83 at a strike rate of 149.92, has helped him seal a berth in the World Cup squad.

Fakhar Zaman, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Usman Qadir did not find a place in the squad but will be part of the travelling contingent as the reserve players.
