As per a report in TOI, Rohit Sharma is likely to become India’s white-ball skipper after the end of the T20 World Cup in UAE. By his own admission, Virat Kohli is likely to step down to concentrate on his batting and on Test cricket and to make India the best team in the format. Kohli will be leading in this third ICC tournament as skipper. He is yet to taste the success of winning an ICC title as of now.
Kohli himself seems to have taken the idea of sharing the responsibilities with Rohit Sharma. He has had long discussions with the team management and Rohit himself over sharing the captaincy responsibilities.
“Virat himself will make the announcement. He is of the view that he needs to concentrate on his batting and go back to becoming what he’s always been — the best batsman in the world,” sources said.
“Virat Kohli himself will make the announcement of him stepping down as white-ball captain. He is of the view that he needs to concentrate on his batting and go back to becoming what he’s always been – the best batsman in the world” the BCCI source further added.

TOI further reported that the long spells of quarantine had regenerated the friendship between the two senior cricketers and that is when Kohli opened upto Rohit regarding sharing captaincy responsibilities.

With two World Cups coming up in 2022 and 2023, Virat Kohli wants to focus on his batting and thus needs more time as a player to concentrate on himself.
Virat Kohli’s numbers as India’s white-ball captain are great. In 98 ODIS, he has won 65 and lost 27. In 45 T20Is, he has won 29 and lost 14 with two games ending in no-result like the ODIS. As far as his IPL record is concerned, he has led RCB in 132 games winning 62 and losing 64 games. Four games ended in no result.
