Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka was in great form in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against India. The visitors, Sri Lanka lost the series 2-1, after they failed to chase down 229 runs in the third T20I at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot. However, Shanaka’s performance left everyone impressed, including former cricketer Gautam Gambhir.
In three matches, Dasun Shanaka scored runs 124 at an average of 62 and was the second-leading run-scorer in the series. He also took a couple of wickets in as many games. Reacting to Shanaka’s performance, Gautam Gambhir expressed that the all-rounder would have attracted a lot of bids had the T20I series been held before the Indian Premier League auction.
Dasun Shanaka had enrolled his name in the Indian Premier League 2023 auction list. However, he did not get any bids and remained unsold. Speaking on Star Sports, Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir said about Shanaka’s performance,
“I won’t have money, he would be that expensive, the way he has batted. That is what the auction is all about. Imagine if this series had happened just before the auction, some of the franchises would probably not have had the money to buy him.”
