India vs England fourth test

In Ranchi on Monday, rising cricket talents Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel showcased their prowess on a challenging wicket, guiding the Indian team to a remarkable 5-wicket victory over England in the fourth Test. With this triumph, India secured an insurmountable 3-1 lead in the five-Test series.

India commenced Day 4 on a strong note, resuming their final innings at 40 for no loss with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal continuing their partnership from the previous day. Captain Rohit Sharma exhibited exceptional leadership, notching up his highest fourth-innings score of 55 in Test cricket.

His crucial innings, the 17th fifty of his career, set a pivotal tone. However, England’s breakthrough, courtesy of Joe Root, triggered a collapse, with India slipping from 84 for no loss to 120 for 5, still requiring 72 runs for victory. Amidst the mounting pressure, Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel displayed resilience and composure, steadying the ship with a crucial partnership.

Initially cautious, they gradually accelerated, strategically manoeuvring the ball to pierce through the field and edge closer to the target. Despite England’s persistent efforts, spearheaded by Ben Stokes, Gill and Jurel remained unfazed, guiding India to victory in the 61st over.

Gill’s composed 52 not out and Jurel’s solid 39 not out were instrumental in steering India towards triumph, showcasing their maturity and temperament under pressure.

Shoaib Bashir’s impressive bowling performance, claiming 3 wickets for 79 runs, along with contributions from Root and Tom Hartley, posed challenges for the Indian batters. However, their efforts couldn’t thwart India’s determined chase on a deteriorating pitch, which offered low bounce and significant turn as the match progressed.

India’s victory extends their remarkable home record to 17 consecutive Test series wins, a streak initiated in 2013. Meanwhile, this defeat marks the first instance of England losing a Test series and consecutive matches under the leadership of coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes in the Bazball era.
