Rohit Sharma and James Anderson engaged in a verbal exchange

Rohit Sharma and James Anderson engaged in a verbal exchange following a tense moment during Day 4 of the fourth Test match between India and England in Ranchi. In the 13th over of India’s second innings, Rohit nicked a delivery from Anderson, causing a slight misunderstanding between him and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Despite the confusion, Rohit managed to complete a quick single. This prompted Anderson to confront Rohit with a few choice words, to which Rohit responded in kind. However, the incident did not escalate further, and both players returned to their positions as play resumed.

Commentator Ravi Shastri noted that the exchange was far from friendly and suggested that players often seek to gain any advantage available. At lunch on Day 4, India had reached 118 for three, requiring another 74 runs to secure the series victory.

Shastri said: “Just as he reached the other end, some words were exchanged between Anderson and Rohit Sharma. Positive it’s not pleasantries. You always try to seize any advantage that you can, get inside the opponent’s skin – be it a batter or a bowler.”

Rohit Sharma played a vital innings, scoring 55 runs off 81 balls and forming an important 84-run partnership with his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, who contributed 37 runs. However, Rajat Patidar experienced another disappointment, failing to score yet again in the series.

At the lunch break, Shubman Gill was batting on 18 runs, accompanied by Ravindra Jadeja, who had scored 3 runs. Amidst the mounting pressure, Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel displayed resilience and composure, steadying the ship with a crucial partnership. Initially cautious, they gradually accelerated, strategically manoeuvring the ball to pierce through the field and edge closer to the target.

Despite England’s persistent efforts, spearheaded by Ben Stokes, Gill and Jurel remained unfazed, guiding India to victory in the 61st over. Gill’s composed 52 not out and Jurel’s solid 39 not out were instrumental in steering India towards triumph, showcasing their maturity and temperament under pressure.
