The 3rd day of the 1st Test match between India and England saw some brilliant cricket at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on 27th January 2024. Joe Root came to the crease after Jasprit Bumrah produced a peach to dismiss Ben Duckett. He surpassed Ricky Pointing’s score becoming the highest run scorer by a batter against India in Test matches.
He scored 2 runs and was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah. England ended the 3rd day at 316 for 6 with a lead of 126 runs. Trailing by 190 runs, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett showed intent putting pressure on the Indian bowlers. R Ashwin struck to get rid of Crawley with a simple catch to Rohit Sharma at slips. Duckett and Ollie Pope kept pressure on Indian bowlers taking singles and hitting boundaries with some lovely strokes.
After the lunch break, Bumrah bowled a peach to dismiss Duckett. Duckett and Pope added 68 runs for 2nd wicket. Root scored 2 runs before Bumrah dismissed him with another beauty. Ollie Pope and Ben Foakes showed intent on keeping the momentum. Pope looked impressive with a superb century on tough Indian conditions. Axar Patel struck to dismiss Foakes ending a superb partnership for the 6th wicket.
Rehan Ahmed and Pope kept Indian bowlers at bay to lead England’s fightback at 316 for 6 with a lead of 126. Ollie Pope is still at the crease with 148 not out while Ahmed looked impressive. Both England batters would be hoping to add some valuable runs and help England put some pressure on the Indian bowlers.
