India Set To Defend Asia Cup As Tournament Is Likely To Take Place In UAE

The upcoming Asia Cup 2020 has been the talk of the town in the past few weeks. With Pakistan hosting the tournament, there were doubts about Team India's participation as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) were hell-bent to host the continental championship in their own country. However, things have started to change and PCB has now opted a lighter stance.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided not to tour Pakistan due to the growing political tension between the two countries. Notably, two years back, the tournament was shifted from India to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). And now, as per reports in Bangalore Mirror, UAE is once again slated to the host mega event, a month before the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

“Our understanding is that the Asia Cup matter is resolved, and the neutral venue will be finalised at the ACC meeting,” the BCCI official said.

Meanwhile, recently, PCB CEO Wasim Khan expressed that they would boycott the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021 if India doesn't visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup. But the BCCI official stated that Pakistan won't go that far to miss an ICC despite enjoying a cordial relationship with the apex body. On the other hand, PCB chairman Ehsan Mani refused to comment on the same and said that the next ACC meeting will decide the venue.

“It is an ACC matter and the venue will be decided at the ACC meeting,” he said.
