The Indian cricket team will hold a three-day training camp ahead of their T20I series against England. According to sources, the squad will assemble in Kolkata on January 18 and practice at Eden Gardens before the series opener.
Led by Suryakumar Yadav, the team aims to build on their strong T20I performances, having already secured series wins against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and South Africa under his leadership, with several record-breaking matches along the way.
A major highlight for the team has been Sanju Samson’s promotion to the opener’s role, which has strengthened their batting lineup. The 5-match series will showcase India’s new generation of talent, including players like Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy. India is expected to pose a tough challenge for England in home conditions.
Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the series following a grueling tour of Australia, where he sustained an injury during the final Test. Meanwhile, pacer Mohammed Shami has returned to the squad after being sidelined for over a year due to injury. Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel have been included in the team, taking precedence over Rishabh Pant.
Sources indicate that England will also arrive in Kolkata on Saturday, January 18, coinciding with the Indian team’s arrival. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has planned a special tribute to legendary women’s cricketer Jhulan Goswami by naming a stand in her honor at the iconic Eden Gardens.
The tribute will be held during the match break. Additionally, the CAB will felicitate the junior women’s Bengal cricket team ahead of the match, with former Indian captain Mithali Raj serving as the guest of honor.
