Virat Kohli Suffers Injury Before Joining Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Reports

Indian cricket star Virat Kohli is reportedly suffering from a neck sprain, which may impact his participation in the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) is still awaiting confirmation regarding his availability for their upcoming match against Saurashtra, set to begin on Thursday, January 23.

Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced new guidelines requiring players to feature in domestic competitions to be eligible for national team selection. According to a report by the Times of India, Kohli sustained a neck sprain and has received an injection to aid his recovery.

“Virat Kohli had a neck sprain and even took an injection for the same. There is a possibility of him skipping the first of the two Ranji Trophy games left and a clear picture could come if the DDCA selectors are given an update,” a source told the Times of India.

Kohli may be included in the squad for the next few Ranji Trophy matches, though his participation will depend on his fitness. The Delhi squad is scheduled to depart for the matches on January 20, giving the star batter time to train with the team and possibly take part in the upcoming games.

“A senior DDCA official said Kohli’s name will most likely be added to the squad with “subject to availability” next to it. The situation, however, could change if they get a clear picture before the meeting this afternoon (January 17) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.”

“The probables of the squad have a net session before the men’s senior selection committee and coach Sarandeep Singh meet to pick the side,” the report mentioned.

Kohli’s Availability Uncertain, Pant Set to Play Both Matches

Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant were included in the initial list of probable players before the domestic season started. However, their international commitments kept them unavailable for the first leg of the Ranji Trophy and the white-ball tournament.

With a brief break after the Border-Gavaskar series and the BCCI’s new policy, first-team players are now joining their domestic teams. Wicketkeeper-batter Pant is preparing for his return to the Ranji Trophy after making himself available.

There is a strong possibility he will feature in the upcoming match against Saurashtra, as well as the subsequent match against Railways.
