Former England skipper Eoin Morgan feels Team India will be favourites for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023. He also shared advice for the team and added that home advantage will be important for them. The mega-event is slated to take place in India later this year from October 5 to November 19.
Team India last won an ICC event in 2013, when they defeated England in the finals of the Champions Trophy. They will be keen to end the ICC trophy drought. Former World Cup winning England skipper Eoin Morgan picked the hosts as the favourites for the tournament along with England, Australia and Pakistan.
“England, India, Australia and Pakistan are four favourites. Playing 50-over cricket in India you need to have your basis covered, and I think these four teams do,” said Eoin Morgan in an interaction with WION recently.
India is an excellent cricket team: Eoin Morgan
Eoin Morgan advised the Indian players to pick the brains of players who won the ICC ODI World Cup in 2011 for the county. He also added that they have an excellent team, and home advantage will help them. Eoin Morgan said,
“India is an excellent cricket team and will be favourites going into the 2023 World Cup. Home advantage is a keen thing. My advice for them would be to engage with the people that were there (in 2011) and probably pick their brains. It’s going to be a hell of a tournament. I am looking forward to it, hoping don’t have too much luck (laugh).”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the revised schedule for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 soon. The venues for the matches are likely to be the same, while there will be some changes to the dates. Team India will kick off their campaign in the tournament against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
