Team India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur admitted that her team needs to work on fielding as they gear up for the T20 World Cup that is set to take place later this year. India lost to Australia 2-1 in a three-match home series on Tuesday in Mumbai. India’s fielding was criticised heavily during the recent series.

Following the series loss, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur reflected on the areas that the team needs to improve upon. She expressed that they need to work on their fitness as well as their fielding. Indian players dropped several catches during the recent series and also were guilty of several misfields. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, the Indian skipper said,

“As a team, we have learnt a lot. Fielding is something we were not up to the mark and after this break, we will work on our fitness and fielding to come back stronger.”

We need to be on our toes in white-ball cricket: Harmanpreet Kaur

Team India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur further expressed that they performed well in the red-ball matches, but need to show urgency in white-ball cricket. She added that she is proud of the team that gave a fight to Australia in the recent series. Harmanpreet Kaur said,

“The last month we played very good cricket. They (Australia) played white-ball cricket better than us. We know that we can take our time in red-ball cricket but we need to be on our toes in white-ball cricket.”

“We always give them a fight, we were not going to give them anything easily, that is something I am proud of my team. A lot to learn from them (Australia) as well,” he added.

India won the solitary Test match against Australia in the recent series. However, they lost both the ODI and T20I series. They were whitewashed in the three-match ODI series.
