INDvSL: Team India thrash Sri Lanka by an innings & 239 runs to take a 1-0 lead

India thrashed Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs in the second test match at VCA Stadium, Jamtha Nagpur to take a 1-0 lead in the series. It was a dominating performance by team India who outplayed the visitors right from the word go.

Sri Lanka started the day 4 on 21 for 1. Ravichandran Ashwin gave the first breakthrough for team India by dismissing Karunanthe who was caught brilliantly by Vijay. Thirmmiane, Mathews played poor strokes. Ishant Sharma produced a brilliant ball to dismiss Dickwella. Dasun Shankar scored 17 quickfire runs before trying to play another big stroke. Perera and Ragana Hearth were dismissed for 0.

Dinesh Chandimal and Surgana Lakmal played with positive intent ending the first session on 145 for 8. After the break, captain Chandimal completed his half-century. Both Chandimal and Lakmal added 52 runs for 9th wicket. Ravichandran Ashwin took the final wicket and became the fastest to take 300 test wickets.

India bowled out Sri Lanka for 166. It was their India’s biggest win over India in test matches. It was a dominating performance by team India who bowled Sri Lanka for 205 in their first innings and then scored 610 for 6 with centuries from Vijay, Pujara, Rohit Sharma. Kohli scored 213.

India 610 for 6d in 176.1 overs ( Kohli 213, Pujara 143, Vijay 128, Rohit Sharma 102*, Perera 3/202) beat Sri Lanka 205 in 79.1 overs ( Chandimal 57, R Ashwin 4/67) and 166 in 49.3 overs ( Chandimal 61, Lakmal 31*, Ashwin 4/63) by an innings and 239 runs.

Captain Virat Kohli and Man of the match Virat Kohli said: It was a great batting pitch. With the overseas tour coming up, needed to rotate strike and score big centuries so that our bowlers have enough time to bowl out opponents out. Pujara, Vijay played some first-class matches. In the coming months, we have a lot of test matches. With the South African tour coming up, we wanted to treat this tour for that.

The third and deciding test match will be held at New Delhi from 2nd December.
