INDvWI: All round India crush West Indies by 9 wickets to win the series

An all round performance by the Indian team helped them to crush West Indies by 9 wickets in the fifth and final ODI played at Green Park Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram just a few minutes ago. West Indies captain Jason Holder decided to bat first and was bowled out for a low total, Indians then chased down the target with ease.

Jasprit Bumrah then struck again getting the big wicket of Shai Hope for 0. Marlon Samuels played with positive intent while Rovman Powell struggled. At the end of 10 overs, West Indies scored 30 for 2.

After the power play overs, Ravindra Jadeja took the wicket of Marlon Samuels for 24. Marlon Samuels and Powell added 32 runs for the 3rd wicket. The left-arm spinner, Jadeja dismissed the dangerous Hetymer for 9 runs to put West Indies under tremendous pressure at 53 for 4.

Khaleel Ahmed struck to dismiss Rovman Powell for 16. The Indian bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals bowling out West Indies for just 104 in 31.5 overs. For India, Ravindra Jadeja took 4 for 34 in 9.5 overs, Bumrah and Khaleel picked 2 wickets each, Kuldeep Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 1 wicket each. West Indies captain Jason Holder was the top scorer with 25 runs.

Chasing 105 runs to win, the stylish left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed cheaply for 6 runs. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli steadied the innings with some brilliant stroke play. At the end of 10 overs, India scored 52 for 1.

Rohit Sharma smashed the West Indies bowlers with some clean hitting reaching his half-century off 45 balls. It was an amazing batting display by both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to add 99 runs unbeaten runs for the 2nd wicket. India crushes West Indies in 14.5 overs winning the match by 9 wickets.

West Indies 104 in 31.5 overs ( Jason Holder 25, Marlon Samuels 24, Ravindra Jadeja 4/34, Bumrah 2/11) by 9 wickets.

West Indies captain Jason Holder said: We lacked consistency in last couple games. Our batsmen played poor strokes and could not post a big total to challenge the Indian team. Could have made 300 runs if we would have applied. Hope and Hetymer were bright spots for us on this tour.

Man of the match Ravindra Jadeja said: Enjoying my game at the present moment. It was a great performance by our team to dominate the West Indies team. Looks great with all our boxes ticking in the series.

Indian captain and Man of the series Virat Kohli said: It was a great team performance and feels good when the team does well as a unit. Rohit Sharma scored runs, Kuldeep Yadav picked wickets, Khaleel Ahmed also performed well. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah did well after coming back after resting from first 3 ODI’s.

India won their 6th successive ODI series at home. With this win, India won the series 3-1. Now the action shifts to T20I series starting from 4th November.
