Former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Dinesh Karthik made his international debut for India in 2004, aging just 19. Since then, 16 years later he is now a veteran in Indian cricket, having done his bit for Indian cricket team as well. He has represented India in 26 Test matches, 94 ODIs, and 32 T20 Internationals garnering 1025, 1752, and 399 runs respectively. However, the Tamil Nadu cricketer was always seen as someone who lived in the shadows of MS Dhoni after he made his international debut in 2005.

A string of low scores and mediocre performances saw him being replaced in the side by MS Dhoni by the Indian selectors. Karthik has often spoken about how he has failed to rise upto the magnitude of Dhoni in international cricket.

Dinesh Karthik On Playing In the MS Dhoni Era

Talking to Indian Squad player Saurav Ghosal, Karthik highlighted his experience on playing alongside MS Dhoni albeit for a brief period of time.

“So, when you have a player like that around, you have to seize the moments with something special. At times I seized it and at times I did not hence life is not always going to be a bed of roses, at times as an individual you do have to run the tough race as well,” said Karthik while speaking on ‘Finish Line’, a special chat show featuring Indian sports stars.

Meanwhile, after a string of losses in the ongoing IPL season, Karthik stepped sown as KKR captain before their game against Mumbai Indians. He passed the baton to England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan. Morgan lost his first game against Mumbai Indians, but led his team to a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their previous game.

KKR are placed fourth in the points table with 10 points from nine games with five more games to go in the league stage. Potentially, they need to win all their remaining games, to give themselves the best chance of making it to the IPL 2020 playoffs.
