Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Dinesh Karthik stepped down from captaincy ahead of their game against Mumbai Indians in Sharjah. Eoin Morgan will take the charge and the lead the side for the rest of IPL 2020. In the wake of the development, former KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir took a dig with a cryptic tweet.

Kolkata have blown hot and cold so far in IPL 2020 in the UAE. They have won four out of their seven matches in the 13th edition so far and are placed fourth on the points table. Dinesh Karthik’s leadership leader skills have come under the scanner right from the first game.

Moreover, Karthik hasn’t been in the best of forms with the bat, averaging 15.42 for his 108 runs so far in the IPL season. With the league poised rightly, veteran wicket-keeper batsman decided to step aside in the best interest of the side. KKR issued a statement to reveal the news and appoint Eoin Morgan as the skipper of the side for the rest of the season.

In the wake of the development, former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir has posted a cryptic tweet, The former opener tried to take a dig with a short message on microblogging site Twitter.

“It takes years to build a legacy but a minute to destroy it,” Gautam Gambhir wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir joined Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011 and led the franchise for seven straight seasons. During his tenure, Kolkata also lifted the title twice in 2012 and 2014. Gambhir moved to Delhi Capitals in 2018 as KKR decided against retaining him.

Dinesh Karthik took over the baton from him in 2018 and has struggled to give the side desired results. Under his leading Kolkata made it to the playoffs in 2018 while they bowed out of the group stages in 2019. The onus now will be on Eoin Morgan to showcase his brilliance and they struggle to keep their place in the top four.
