The ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed some of the best catches yet in the competition. On Friday, Suryakumar took things one step ahead when he grabbed an outstanding catch in the point region to dismiss Rahul Tripathi, who was in complete disbelief.

Asked to bowl first, Mumbai Indians pacer Trent Boult produced the right start. He hit the lengths right troubling Kolkata Knight Riders openers – Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi. They looked to take some time and get settled before launching an attack. But a moment of brilliance from Suryakumar Yadav broke all hell loose.

Suryakumar Yadav picks a stunning catch

It was a short delivery from Trent Boult with plenty of room on offer for Tripathi to free his arms. He just obliged it by slapping it hard. It was in the air and to the left of the point fielder. Suryakumar Yadav threw himself across, plucked it with both hands.

He hardly had any time to react and grabbed one of the best catches of IPL 2020. Boult and Tripathi’s reaction, who had a wry smile on his face tells it all. Even Mumbai Indian’s coach Mahela Jayawardene stood up in the dug-out and applauded the effort by Suryakumar Yadav.

Seeking the opportunity, Mumbai Indians produced more pressure on Kolkata Knight Riders which yielded one more wicket in the form of Nitish Rana. The southpaw’s poor run in the competition continues.

The onus now will be on former Kolkata skipper Dinesh Karthik and Shubman Gill to build a partnership and post a challenging total on the board. They are currently at 33 for two at the end of the powerplays.
