An IPL player has reported corruption approaches in IPL 2020 if reports of a senior officer from the league is to be believed. The development has been confirmed by BCCI’s ACU chief Ajit Singh to PTI. The identity of the player and the team is kept confidential while being reported that the approach wasn’t made in person with teams staying in a bio-bubble.
“Yes (a player has reported approach). We are tracking him (the person who made the approach). It will take some time” Ajit Singh, the former DGP of Rajasthan Police, said.
BCCI Educating Players on Corruption Approaches in IPL 2020
Meanwhile, the BCCI has been continuously educating the players to tackle corruption approaches before the start of IPL 2020. They were given sessions by BCCI’s Anti Corruption Unit. Before the start of the tournament, BCCI roped in Sportradar, a leading supplier of sports integrity solutions and data products, to work alongside the ACU in monitoring anti-corruption cases in the tournament.

“The company’s Fraud Detecting System (FDS) monitors odds in the markets of over 600 bookmakers and these bookmakers are of different kinds, from different countries, different regions, including the so-called grey market or the illegal operators,” Tom Mace, who heads Sportradar’s global operations said ahead of the start of IPL 2020.
The work of the FDS is to track corruption movements in the tournament and alert the officials when there is any threat of players coming under the approach of corruption. The FDS was involved in a session with all the participating players of IPL 2020 on September 15 and even after the tournament started.
The IPL has a history of facing corruption charges every year with the BCCI particularly focusing on implying strong punishment to bookies and safeguarding the players in the process.
The BCCI decided to postpone the IPL 2020 earlier this year due to the outbreak of COVID-19. After hosting the tournament in India was out of the question, the BCCI opted UAE as the venue for IPL 2020, where the COVID rate is under control.
