Chasing 177 to win, Kings XI Punjab skipper scored 77 off 51 balls before being castled by Jasprit Bumrah. The pacer bowled a perfect yorker at 148.5 kph beating the bat of Rahul. Bumrah dismissed Rahul in the 18th over with Punjab needing just above 20 runs. Rahul during his knock, crossed 500 runs in the season. He became the first batsman to score 500 runs three seasons back to back. Rahul’s dismissal brought about a nervous reaction from the Punjab owner Priety Zinta.

KL Rahul was once again at the heart of Punjab’s batting order in the chase. With wickets falling at the other end, Rahul kept his calm to take his team close to a win. Chris Gayle (24) and Nicholas Pooran (24) played cameos in the middle-overs keeping Punjab at bay in their chase.
The match went down to a Super over after Punjab failed to score 9 needed off the final over.
Previously in the games that they lost KXIP were guilty of leaving it too late and that was the case yet again. A set Rahul lost his wicket at the wrong time which turned the match around for Mumbai Indians, who did beautifully in the field to restrict the Punjab batsmen needing two in the final over.
