The Rajasthan Royals skipper Steve Smith has been fined for slow over-rate. Yesterday it was a disappointing day for the Royals as they suffered a massive defeat against the Mumbai Indians. Also, after the conclusion of the match, their skipper was fined Rs. 12 Lakhs for poor over-rate in the first innings.

This is now the first over-rate offence for Rajasthan Royals this season. Earlier the Delhi Capitals Shreyas Iyer was also handed a fine for conducting slow over rate. An IPL media release confirmed the new about Smith getting penalised for slow over-rate in the match against MI at Abu Dhabi.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Smith was fined Rs 12 lakh,” stated an IPL media release.

Meanwhile, the Royals suffered their third consecutive defeat this season. After winning their first two matches in IPL 2020, Steve Smith and his men failed to win a single match outside the Sharjah cricket stadium.

Rajasthan Royals Now 7th In IPL Table 

The defending champions registered a clinical win over the Royals by 57 runs. Also, Smith failed to lead from the bat in the run chase and lost his wicket for just 6 to Jasprit Bumrah. Apart from Jos Buttler no other Royals batsmen could make a significant contribution and were bowled out for mere 136 chasing a target of 194.

Furthermore, after yesterday’s loss, Rajasthan Royals are now placed at the 7th spot in the IPL 2020 table. In their next encounter, they will now face the inform Delhi Capitals who has just lost a single match in the season so far. The two teams will clash on October 9 (Friday) at Sharjah.
