The Delhi Capitals storm in the IPL playoffs by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020 at Abu Dhabi. In a do or die match it was Shreyas Iyer and his men who outperformed RCB and punched their ticket in the top 2.
Even after losing RCB still managed to sneak in the playoffs based on their run rate. They were able to drag the match beyond 17.3 overs of the DC batting effort and qualified in the top 4 due to a healthier run-rate as compared to KKR.
Chasing a total of 153 it was the experienced duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane who batted superbly. After losing an early wicket the two didn’t take a backward step and attacked in the batting powerplay.
Both DC and RCB Reach The IPL 2020 Playoffs
The pair put on a match-winning partnership of 88 runs and anchored the chase to perfection. Dhawan scored 54 in 41 balls whereas Rahane contributed 60 runs from 46 balls. The match got tight towards the end after Shahbaz Ahmed removed Shreyas Iyer and Rahane but DC courtesy of Marcus Stoinis and Rishabh Pant was able to wrap up the match with an over to spare.
Earlier in the match, it was a professional effort from all the DC bowlers. Their star spinner Ravi Ashwin gave away just 18 runs and snaffled the key wicket of Virat Kohli.
Bowlers Executed Their Plans Today – Shreyas Iyer
Whereas their intimidating fast bowling duo of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada was again among the wickets. Nortje picked 3 and Rabada dismissed 2 as RCB could only put on a below-par total of 152 runs.
Their opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal carried on his rich vein of form and stroked another half-century. Unfortunately, RCB kept losing wickets and failed to impress with the bat in a significant clash.
Here’s what the winning captain Shreyas Iyer said in the post-match presentation.
“Very chuffed with the performance. We knew it was a do-or-die and an opportunity for us to get to the second spot. We were really motivated and the teams winning in the latter half completely changed the scenario of the table and it was really commendable and really happy with how the tournament has gone so far,” Shreyas Iyer said.
“The bowlers were really up with their plans and they knew what they had to execute. Nortje was really good and it worked out pretty well. Kudos to the way the bowlers bowled. We are one of the best teams in the tournament and we need to stick to the basics and if we try and execute our plans, the results will come,” added Shreyas Iyer.
