Prithvi Shaw scored a brilliant 82 as Delhi Capitals beat Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets in match 25 of IPL 2021. In the process, Delhi get to 10 points and at number two in the points table. Meanwhile, KKR still manage to hold onto the fifth position in the points table with five losses and just two wins from seven games. More about the match report in detail below. Shaw hit 11 fours and three sixes in his 41-ball knock.
Prithvi Shaw scored 24 runs from Shivam Mavi’s first over to get the chase going. It was a killer blow from the Capitals as the shoulders from the KKR fielders dropped from the very first over. Shaw and Dhawan (46) then put up an opening stand of 132 runs which ended any hopes of a KKR comeback. On a pitch where the KKR openers struggled to get going, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan scored runs for fun. Pat Cummins who was brought on as late as the sixth over of the run chase took 3/24. None of the other bowlers were able to put any more impact on the game.
Prithvi Shaw Singlehandedly Wins It For Delhi Capitals
After Prithvi Shaw was dismissed on 82, skipper Rishabh Pant scored 16 off 8 while Marcus Stoinis hit the rinning runs for DC in a rather one-sided contest. There were no positives drawn from this game for Kolkata. Mavi’s first over itself decided the fate of the game. If KKR had any hopes of taking early wickets, Shaw delivered a sucker punch in Mavi’s first over from where they never really recovered.
Earlier in the game, Shubman Gill (47) and Nitish Rana (15) made a cautious start. While Rana perished early once again, Gill brought up his highest score of this season. In between KKR lost four quick wickets as the scorecard read from 69/2 to 82/5. Expected to finish on a high Dinesh Karthik yet again disappointed, scoring just 14 from 10 balls. Thanks to Andre Russell’s 27-ball 45. KKR managed to score past 150 which was just not enough in the end.
While Delhi has got back their consistency, KKR have yet again lost a game after winning their previous one against Punjab Kings. DC have two days to cool their heels before taking on PBKS on May 2. KKR play a day later, against one of the in-form teams of the season – RCB – on May 3.
While a Delhi Capitals look good for a top-two finish, KKR must make a quick turnaround in the final seven games to give themselves the best chance of making it to the playoffs. They have seven games remaining with the team already in a must-win situation.
