The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) which was postponed on May 4 after a couple of bio-bubble breaches has been moved to the UAE, confirms BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and IPL Governing Council unanimously decided to halt the tournament considering the safety of the players in mind. The decision came after a couple of bio-bubble breaches with cricketers and support staffs testing COVID19 positive. Ever since the tournament came to a premature halt, speculations have been going around when and where will BCCI host the remainder of IPL 2021.
The BCCI stakeholders met in a Special General Meeting (SGM) earlier today where it was decided that the second half of IPL 2021 will take place in the UAE. Incidentally, UAE remains to be a tested venue after hosting IPL 2020 completely.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced to complete the remaining matches of VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year,” BCCI said in a statement.
IPL 2021 will run from September 19 to October 10. The remaining 31 matches of IPL 2021 will be split into 10 double headers, 7 single headers, and 4 playoffs, which will be fit into the 21-day window the BCCI hopes to create before the ICC T20 World Cup.
BCCI seeks more time for staging T20 World Cup
Meanwhile, the office-bearers have also seek for an extension from the Internation Cricket Council (ICC) to take an appropriate decision in hosting the global event. The tournament is scheduled to take place in India, starting in the middle of October.
“The BCCI SGM further authorised the Office Bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take an appropriate call on the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021,” the statement added.
