Kolkata Knight Riders player Rahul Tripathi was fined for not wearing a mask and violating the COVID-19 protocols. As per a report inThe Indian Express, Kolkata Knight Riders’ batsman Rahul Tripathi was fined for allegedly violating COVID-19 norms. As per the report, Tripathi was not wearing a mask and was driving without any reason. Wearing a mask is one of the ways to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The newspaper reported that the KKR batsman was riding his bike without wearing a mask for no reason. Pune, from where Tripathi hails is one of the worst-affected cities by COVID-19 due to its proximity with Mumbai which has the most number of cases among all the states in India. The state government had also announced that the shops selling the essential items would be allowed to open from 7 to 11 AM during weekends.

Rahul Tripathi Booked For Breaking COVID Protocol

Rahul Tripathi scored 187 runs in 7 matches while batting at number 3. He will be back to playing for the side when the season resumes in the UAE later this year in September. The BCCI decided to shift the second half of the season to the UAE. 

Meanwhile, the very first COVID positive case came from the KKR camp with Varun Chakravarty testing positive. He along with Sandeep Warrier were the two players who were the first to be tested positive. Later on, players from other IPL franchises tested positive as well.

Tripathi might open in the innings in the remaining half of the season for KKR. KKR coach Brendon McCullum hinted of a change in the batting order before their reverse fixture against RCB. However, the BCCI decided to suspend the season on May 4. 

Kolkata Knight Riders were placed seventh on the points table with just two wins from seven games in the first half of the season. It will be interesting to see if the management retains the present opening pair or will Tripathi open the innings. IPL 2021 is likely to resume in September-October.
