Robin Uthappa will play for Chennai Super Kings In IPL 2021 after Rajasthan Royals traded him for an all-cash deal. CSK will be Uthappa’s sixth IPL franchise after having previously played for Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors, Kolkata Knight Riders along with playing the last season for the Royals. Uthappa was roped in by RR for 3 crores in IPL 2020. He scored 196 runs in 12 matches for the Royals last season.
After ending his association with the 2008 IPL champions, addressed a press conference saying that he enjoyed his time with the Royals and is now looking forward to playing with the three-time IPL champions.

Robin Uthappa Joins CSK
“I really enjoyed my year at the Royals and had a great time being part of this franchise. I am now excited for the next part of my cricketing journey joining CSK for IPL 2021,” Uthappa was quoted as saying in a Rajasthan Royals media release on Thursday (January 21).

Chennai roping in Robin Uthappa may be a replacement move for Murali Vijay and Shane Watson both of whom were released by the franchise earlier at the retention. They do, however, have Faf du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, Ruturaj Gaikwad, N. Jagadeesan and Sam Curran available to open the innings.
Robin Uthappa is one of the veterans of the IPL having won the Orange Cap with KKR in their title-winning season in 2014. He scored 660 runs from 16 games with six consecutive 40-plus scores. Overall he has scored 4607 runs from 189 games at a strike-rate of 129.99 in the competition with 29 half-centuries to his name. He is also inching closer to 5000 IPL runs.

The IPL trade window remains open and released players may yet move across teams.
