KKR mystery spinner Varun Chakravarty earned a call-up in India’s T20 World Cup squad. His consistent performances in the IPL since the last two years played a huge role in the selectors getting him a place in the squad. he will be a mystery element in the team given that the cricket world has not seen much of him at the international level.
Speaking to Aakash Chopra after his call-up Varun Chakravarty relooked at his journey into this Indian team. He has picked up seven wickets in the first half of the IPL an economy of 7.82. He spoke about KKR having a good bench strength and doing well in the second half of the season.
“Our bench strength is amazing this year because we have a backup for every player in the playing XI. Somehow, things did not go well and I really feel that this break might have helped. We could not gel at the right time and I feel this time, this gap will help us and we will do really well.”

KKR finished fifth in the points table since the last two seasons and have missed on the playoffs spot on both occasions. They have roped in Tim Southee as Pat Cummins’ replacement ahead of the second phase.
Varun further said that the franchise has used him whenever they needed a wicket and used him as a strike bowler. In this context, Aakash Chopra spoke about KKR’s game against RCB when the leggie was taken out of the attack after dismissing Virat Kohli.

“Yes, those discussions did happen but it was too late to do because by that time Maxwell and ABD scored their fifties and they were well settled. I felt they used me whenever they wanted a wicket and at those stages they used me” said Varun.
The mystery spinner made his T20I debut for India in their recent tour to Sri Lanka. He picked two wickets in the three games that he played.
