Chennai Super Kings have announced their retentions ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. The retention picks were announced during a special IPL retention show on Star Sports. The mega auction will be held in January next year. The side has retained MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali. Dhoni will continue leading the side in the next IPL season.
There was a toss-up between Sam Curran and Moeen but the management decided to go with the experienced all-rounder. That Moeen has retired from Test cricket and focusing entirely on white-ball cricket ensures that he will be available throughout the IPL season.
Talking to Harsha Bhogle after the IPL 2021 final, Dhoni hinted at playing the next IPL season. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the next IPL season will be played in India bringing an end to all speculations.
MS Dhoni To Lead Chennai Super Kings IN IPL 2022
“Well, I still have left behind (anything). Again I’ve said it before, it depends on BCCI. With two new teams coming in……we have to decide what is good for CSK. It’s not about me being there in top-three or four. It’s about making a strong core to ensure the franchise doesn’t suffer. The core group, we have to have a hard look to see who can contribute for the next 10 years,” Dhoni said.
The confirmed retentions as of now are:
CSK – Dhoni, Jadeja, Ruturaj, Moeen.
DC – Pant, Shaw, Axar, Nortje.
KKR – Russell, Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer.(Source – Espn Cricinfo)
