MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ahead of IPL 2022. The 15th edition of the tournament will commence on March 26 (Saturday).

Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. The ace all-rounder was retained ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction for a whopping amount of INR 16 crore.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond as a wicket-keeper batsman.

“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,” CSK said in an official statement.

MS Dhoni had led the Chennai franchise to four IPL titles, including the last season. He has also guided the side to a record 9 IPL finals and two Champions League title.

Overall, he has led the franchise in 204 matches, winning 121 games win a percentage of over 59 while he ended up losing on 82 occasions. Dhoni was appointed CSK’s captain ahead of the inaugural edition of the IPL way back in 2008.

The Chennai franchise became the most successful IPL franchise of all time, failing to qualify for the playoffs only once in the tournament’s 15-year-old history under MS Dhoni.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja will have big shoes to fill now, having very less experience of leading a high-profile side. However, with Dhoni by his side it will be interesting how he copes up with the pressure.

CSK will open their IPL 2022 campaign against KKR on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium.
