IPL 2022: “RCB Might Appoint Virat Kohli As A Captain Next Year” – Ravichandran Ashwin

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin feels that the Royal Challengers Bangalore might reinstate Virat Kohli as their skipper in the next IPL season. Kohli resigned from the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captaincy post last year.

South African cricketer batter Faf Du Plessis will take over the reins this year for the franchise. Du Plessis was signed by the Bangalore team in the IPL 2022 auctions for INR 7 crores.

In a video uploaded on Ravichandran Ashwin’s Youtube Channel, the cricketer expressed that Faf Du Plessis was the right choice for RCB. However, he added that Du Plessis might not play for more than two-three IPL seasons.

“Faf is more like towards the end of his IPL career. Maybe, he has two-three years left with him. And they have made him the captain, which is quite a good decision. He brings in a lot of experience and in fact, he has himself said that we can see a bit of MS Dhoni’s touch in his captaincy skills,” said Ashwin.

The off-spinner feels that the Royal Challengers Bangalore might reinstate Virat Kohli as the captain next year. He said:

“I feel that since Virat Kohli has undergone a lot of stress as a captain in the last few years, this year will be like a break for him and they might appoint him as a captain next year is my guess.”

IPL is a tough tournament: Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin will be playing the Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. He was signed by the franchise for INR 5 crores in the auctions.

Speaking about the tournament, the off-spinner expressed that IPL is a tough tournament. He added that there are multiple variables that affect a game. Ashwin said:

“The IPL is a tough tournament, there are a lot of variables leading into every season. Dew, pitches, the opposition, you name it and there’s a variable that can impact a game in different ways and you’ve got to be ready at all times.”

“However, for me, going into an IPL season is always exciting. The IPL gives a window of experimentation, something which has enabled me to come out a richer cricketer, irrespective of the results,” he added.
