The Kolkata Knight Riders have been the busiest during the retention phase of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auctions. They acquired the services and also let go of a few players through the trade window ahead of the season. Kolkata Knight Riders recently announced their retained players list through social media. The deadline to submit the final list of retained players was Tuesday, November 15, till 5 pm.
The two-time Indian Premier League champions will once again be led by Shreyas Iyer in the upcoming edition of the tournament. Last year, they finished seventh on the points table, with six wins from fourteen matches. In this edition, the Kolkata Knight Riders will be keen to change their fortunes.
Ahead of the mini-IPL auctions, they traded in the likes of Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz from the Gujarat Titans. Through the trade window, they also acquired the services of Shardul Thakur for Delhi Capitals by trading out all-rounder Aman Khan to the Delhi Capitals. Shardul was brought by Delhi Capitals for 10.75 cr in the auctions last time, while Aman Khan went for 20 lakhs.
Sam Billings, Pat Cummins, and Alex Hales to miss IPL 2023
The Kolkata Knight Riders released the likes of Sam Billings, Pat Cummins, and Alex Hales for the 2023 Indian Premier League. As announced earlier, the three players have confirmed their non-participation in the upcoming edition due to personal reasons and national duties. The Shreyas Iyer-led team has also released the likes of Shivam Mavi, Mohammad Nabi, and Chamika Karunaratne among others to free up their purse. The team will head into the auctions with a remaining purse of 7.5 crores.
