IPL 2023

The Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a huge loss against the Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, May 11 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata in the 2023 Indian Premier League. Their batting attack failed to put up a good score in the first innings, followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting carnage, which handed the Royals a comfortable nine-wicket win.

Batting first, the Kolkata Knight Riders only managed 149 runs at the loss of eight wickets. Venkatesh Iyer was the lone warrior in the innings, with a half-century. Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal took a four-wicket haul for the Rajasthan Royals in the innings. In response to the first innings total, the visitors put up a dominating batting show. Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 98 runs, while Sanju Samson scored 48, to take their team home.

The loss has significantly impacted Kolkata Knight Riders’ chances of qualifying for the playoffs of the 2023 Indian Premier League. However, they are still alive in the race. Let’s take a look at the qualification scenario for the Nitish Rana-led team.

Qualification scenario for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2023 Indian Premier League season:

The Kolkata Knight Riders slipped to seventh place in the points table after their loss against the Rajasthan Royals in the 2023 Indian Premier League. They have five wins from twelve matches with an NRR of -0.357. They are the only team in the table currently with seven losses in twelve games.

Remaining Matches for Kolkata Knight Riders:

May 14: vs Chennai Super Kings

May 20: vs Lucknow Super Giants

Kolkata Knight Riders’ NRR took a heavy dent after their loss against Rajasthan Royals. They have very little chance of qualifying for the playoff of the 2023 Indian Premier League season. They first need to win both of their remaining matches in the tournament. It will be a tough task with both their opponents higher ranked. Winning their remaining two matches will take them to 14 points, which will still not be enough for a top 4 finish. In this case, they have to target big wins in the two matches, to rise their NRR significantly.
