Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri is in awe of Rajasthan Royals batter Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting talent. He expressed that the youngster continues to impress everyone. Jaiswal has been in tremendous form, playing a key role for the franchise in the 2023 Indian Premier League.
The left-hander has scored 575 runs in twelve matches, at an average of 52.57, with four fifties and a century to his name this season. He slammed the fastest fifty in the history of the Indian Premier League, off just 13 deliveries, against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. He remained unbeaten on 98 runs in the game, powering the Rajasthan Royals to a great win.
Following the win, former cricketer Ravi Shastri hailed Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance. Speaking to Star Sports, he said,
“Jaiswal continues to wow everybody who watches him. In some of his shots through the off-side, the head is still and the footwork is impeccable. For someone who is 21 years old, he has come up the hard way.”
Ravi Shastri believes Yashasvi Jaiswal should get an India call-up soon after the Indian Premier League in the T20s. He expressed that the youngster will be the first name picked in the team. Shastri said,
“Immediately (How soon will he get an India call-up?). The selectors would love seeing what they are seeing. They would love to see such a talent after a long wait, someone who is so good across all formats.”
“And especially, in white-ball cricket, in T20 cricket, he walks into the side irrespective of who’s there. His will be the first name picked,” he added.

Ravi Shastri further highlighted the hardships Yashasvi Jaiswal had to overcome during his early days to achieve success. He expressed that the challenges have made him tough, and sorted. Ravi Shastri added that the opener should get the best guidance, and should remain grounded in his cricketing journey. He said,
“When you go through that kind of hardship, Pani Puri, we all eat it. He had to do it to make ends meet. You are tough, you are really tough mentally. You are ready. And you can see he is sorted. Let’s hope he stays that way. It’s important when you come up that quickly. I hope he gets the best guidance, and he is kept grounded. He is not someone who is going to forget it. It’s going to reap him rewards like never before.”
