The Chennai Super Kings pulled off a stunning win against the Gujarat Titans in a thrilling final to win the 2023 Indian Premier League season (IPL). Ravindra Jadeja’s late flourish with the bat powered the franchise to a five-wicket win at the Narendra Modi Stadium. This is the Chennai Super Kings’ fifth title in the history of the tournament.

Batting first, the Gujarat Titans put on a mammoth 214 runs on the board. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill gave them a solid opening, but it was Sai Sudharsan’s knock that stole the show in the first innings. The youngster slammed 96 runs off just 47 runs with eight boundaries and six sixes, to make it a memorable final.

There were a few stoppages in the second innings due to rain. However, with the great efforts of the support staff, the match was able to resume, with 171 runs target for the Chennai Super Kings in 15 overs. Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad got them off to a good start. However, a couple of quick wickets sent them on the back foot. Ajinkya Rahane’s fine cameo of 27 runs off just 13 deliveries, brought Chennai back on track.

After the veteran batter’s dismissal, it was Ambati Rayudu and Shivam Dubey, who kept them in the hunt. Mohit Sharma did punch a couple of blows in the end, however, Ravindra Jadeja kept his calm, to score 10 runs off the final two deliveries to take the Chennai Super Kings home.
