The reigning champions Gujarat Titans will kick off the much-anticipated 2023 Indian Premier League with the season-opener against the Chennai Super Kings on Friday, March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. They will be eyeing to defend their champion’s title this year.
Gujarat Titans finished the league stages as the table toppers in the last edition. They won ten out of the fourteen games and had 20 points. The Hardik Pandya-led team defeated the Rajasthan Royals in the first qualifier to qualify for the finals. They again met the Royals in the final of the league and managed to get the better of them. Titans won the match by seven wickets to lift the Indian Premier League in their debut season.
While not many rated the Gujarat Titans highly before the last season, they are definitely a team to watch out for this season. Their batting attack is likely to be similar to last year, apart from Kane Williamson’s inclusion. Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha are likely to open the innings. Hardik Pandya, Vijay Shankar, and Rahul Tewatia will handle the all-rounders’ department.
Gujarat Titans probable overseas quartet
Veteran batters Kane Williamson and David Miller are likely to be the pillars of the Gujarat Titans’ batting attack. Miller had a great season for the franchise last year, scoring 483 runs at an average of 68.71. Rashid Khan is another overseas player who will play an important role for the Gujarat Titans. Along with them, Alzarri Joseph is likely to be the fourth foreign player. Pacer Mohammed Shami, who was their leading wicket-taker last season will once again be keen to repeat the effort.
