IPL 2024: [WATCH]- MI And LSG Supporters Involve In A Brawl At Wankhede Stadium In Mumbai

Tempers escalated among a few spectators at the Wankhede Stadium during the IPL 2024 encounter between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday (May 17). This marked the last league match for both teams this season.

A user on X shared a video capturing a skirmish that occurred in the stands during the Friday match on the social media platform. The footage depicts fans clad in their team jerseys engaging in verbal altercations and physical scuffles.

LSG secured a 19-run win over MI, concluding their IPL 2024 season with 14 points

Lucknow Super Giants elected to bat first after losing the toss and recovered from a slow start to post a challenging total of 214/6.

Nicholas Pooran played a starring role for his team, smashing a quickfire 75 off just 29 deliveries. Captain KL Rahul contributed with a composed half-century, scoring 55 runs. MI bowlers Nuwan Thushara (3/28) and Piyush Chawla (3/29) stood out with their performances.

Rohit Sharma (68) and Naman Dhir (62*) displayed brave innings with aggressive half-centuries for MI, but their endeavors went unrewarded as they lacked support from other batsmen. Mumbai Indians managed to reach only 196/6 in 20 overs, resulting in a 19-run loss.

Following the match, LSG captain KL Rahul pondered on his team’s performance this season, stating: “Very disappointing, at the beginning of the season I felt we had a strong team and all bases covered. A couple of injuries at the start, that always happens but those really hampered us. We did not come together as bowlers and batters earlier, it was a good game today.”

He added: “We would have liked to play these games more where the batters score runs, the bowlers take wickets. Credit to the franchise for investing in fast bowlers, we sent Yudhvir and Mayank to South Africa to train with Morne (Morkel). Mohsin was injured too, the franchise took great care of the fast bowlers.”

MI ended up at the bottom of the points table for the second time in three years. LSG narrowly missed securing a playoff berth as they concluded their IPL 2024 campaign with 14 points.
